Age: 2-5 years
Activity Summary:
Children will learn how to tell stories with pictures.
Objectives
•Building drawing skills.
•Looking at storytelling using a different medium.
•Working with scissors.
•Learning about different cultures.
What You Need:
•Large piece of brown construction paper
•Black crayons
•Scissors
What You Do:
- Measure 3" from each end of construction paper, draw a straight line from top to bottom.
- Using scissors, cut in from the end of the paper to the black line several times (giving the look of fringe for the ends of the blanket).
- Using Native American drawings (tee-pee, horse, boy, girl, sun, moon, village) found in many children's stories of Native American origin, children create their own story.
- For example: A drawing of a girl, a sun, a village, and a boy by a tee-pee may be interpreted as: "A young girl traveled for one day until she found a village. There she met a young boy who helped her build a tee-pee." and so on...
